Women should be safe to walk our streets however the events of this week, and the tragic murder of Sarah Everard, have shown this is not the case. We have been deeply saddened by Sarah’s death and the stories women across the UK and Reading have shared highlighting the danger and harassment they face everyday.
Our chair Sarah Hacker added “Recent events have shown there is still a way to go until women can be confident they are safe to walk our streets. We will be asking Reading Borough Council what can be done to make the streets of Reading a safer place. We send our deepest sympathy to Sarah Everard’s family.”
Reclaim These Streets is calling on people across the UK to stand on their doorstep holding a candle or light on Saturday night at 9.30pm, the time when Everard is thought to have gone missing.
