It was fantastic to see a good mix of long time members and some new members chatting and getting to know each other at our new members welcome reception.
The event kicked off with informal networking and the opportunity to speak with Matt Rodda MP, lead Councillors, some of our newly selected candidates for 2018 Reading Council elections and members of the RDLP Executive Team.
We had plenty of food and information on different parts of the Party at hand. For example, have you signed up to our 100 club? We also sold a few Tee-shirts!
Then our Chair Mo Mc Sevney introduced the session sharing her passion for the Party, vision for the future and determination to help get us the Reading West MP seat. She talked about the imperative to mobilise and take a stand against the crippling and increasing inequalities and the opportunity we have in Reading to make a difference.
Matt Rodda MP then talked about his personal journey, some of his current priorities and there was a lively Q&A session. We covered topics on Council Budgets, health, Brexit and other international issues as Matt described himself as an internationalist. Our session had to stop as it was over running showing how lively and engaging it was.
Some of the key takeaways from the event was the desire for more networking events and some subject specific seminars. There were many who said they were keen to get involved and helped us understand a bit more what some of the challenges to this are so we can work with members to overcome these. There are plenty of opportunities to connect with other members and support a new level of local political activism so please get in touch if you are keen to get involved, have questions or issues you think might be a barrier and let’s crack them together.
