Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week with a key focus on stress. Reading Young Labour members discussed what this meant for them in their everyday lives at school, work or university. One member said “nobody cares or understands” when it comes to mental health and stress in schools while another clarified that “teachers are patronising about stress”.
Reading Young Labour have discussed mental health, the lack of provisions within school and how the relentless cuts have deepened the issues surrounding mental health. Furthermore, we have been working with local charities and organisations to understand how mental health education can be provided to young people in a manner that is both sensitive and effective. Our efforts to explore the priorities surrounding mental health are part of contributing to Young Labour’s integral campaign on mental health awareness nationally.
